History

Trottet Café was founded in Geneva, Switzerland, over 60 years ago on 1st September 1947 by Théophile Trottet. Working in the coffee business since 1932, Théophile Trottet began to roast, package and distribute coffee. During this time he created two blends, the Italian espresso and the luxury Mocca, which is still the company’s flagship product. Théophile Trottet always kept up with the latest developments, whether through a high performance production tool, combining ecology and quality, or by diversifying his company to move into all sectors that involve coffee. Right from day one, Trottet Café has been mainly involved in the grocery trade, retail and catering.

In 1995, the company began the production of “Caps Café” coffee pods, paper sachets containing 7g of freshly ground coffee, a product that would go on to be hugely successful. This year, the company is also entering into the vending industry for hot drinks, colds drinks and snacks - an important product for meeting the growing demand of the corporate world. Over the years, Trottet Café has always strived to use more high performance production tools, guaranteeing traditional coffee roasting of the highest quality.

In 2008, Trottet Café marketed its very latest product, “Caps System”, a capsule containing 7g of excellent coffee. This product offers Trottet Café’s loyal customers, who love natural and traditional products, coffee machines that make the perfect espresso.

1965 is a key date in Trottet Café’s history. It was in this year that Gabriel Trottet, 2nd generation of the Trottet family, joined his father, Théophile. Gabriel took over the running of the company from 1970 with Théophile Trottet as President. Gabriel, therefore, took part in an important development within the company, forcing it to move its base to a modern coffee roasting factory in Geneva-Meyrin in 1988. He used this move as an opportunity to install an industrial catalyst, thus removing all pollutant emissions and gas exhalations. Thus, the company became one of the first coffee roasters to install such a system.
When running at full capacity, this modern factory can produce up to 2,000kg of coffee per hour. The company’s more than sixty years of industry expertise guarantees the quality of the products, both in terms of the roasting and the blends. Our key coffee roasters ensure that we have this outstanding expertise. La Maison du Café Trottet has remained a family business, allowing it to maintain the uncompromising quality and passion that only a family business can guarantee.

In 1992, Gabriel Trottet’s son, François Trottet, joined the company. After being guided and trained by his father on all the subtleties of the trade, he took over the running of the company in 1996, with Gabriel Trottet as President.
